MUSIC BOOSTERS PREPARES FOR THE HOLLYDAZE

A spectacular assembly of performers are preparing your favorite holiday and theater tunes to present in Music Boosters upcoming holiday extravaganza, “Hollydaze,” scheduled for Friday and Saturday, December 9-10, at Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts.  This fun evening of music, dance, and special surprises will be sure to put audiences in a holiday frame of mind.

Featured throughout the show will be the exciting premier performances by the Pagosa Springs Symphonic Band, a new local wind, brass, and string ensemble sponsored by Pagosa Springs Music Boosters.  The band is under  the direction of Larry Baisdon and Bill Gottschalk, both retired band directors who enjoyed long and illustrious music careers prior to moving to Pagosa Springs.  “I think the people in our community will be pleasantly surprised at the wonderful sounds emanating from this newly formed group,” says Bill Gottschalk. 

Other featured performers will include local classical and jazz pianist, Dr. Tony Saladino, The Divertimento Quartet, flutist Jessica Peterson, vocalist/actor Tim Moore (co-owner of Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts),  Leadfoot Ruthie performer and school superintendent Mark DeVoti, and possibly Pagosa's first four-piano quartet, along with many more favorite Music Boosters performers. Production director, Dale Johnson, has been involved with Music Boosters for ten years and has directed many outstanding musical theater productions, most recently including “Into the Woods,” “Annie,” “The Beat Goes On,” “Plaid Tidings,” and “South Pacific.”  Musical directors for “Hollydaze” are Sally Neel and Sue Anderson  both of whom have been actively involved in teaching, accompanying, and directing the music for Music Boosters productions over the past years. 

“Hollydaze” is a variety show filled with many of your favorite classic holiday songs, including band arrangements of “Joy to the World,” featuring trumpet soloist Karen Mesikapp, “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing,” “'Twas the Night Before Christmas,” narrated by Sally Neel, “Jingle Bells,” and many others.  Of course, no Music Boosters production would be complete without some of the classic Broadway musical tunes that have been a part of Music Boosters tradition of musical theater for the past twenty two years.  All proceeds from Music Boosters productions go toward scholarships for selected high school seniors majoring in the arts and to purchase equipment to assist arts programs in the public schools.  “We are proud of our long tradition of supporting the arts in the schools,” says director, Dale Johnson, “and we look forward to many more years of bringing high quality musical theater productions to our community.”
